ACCJ Delivery-Vehicle Donation to Food Bank Kansai Featured in Kobe Shimbun
The 27 February 2025 morning edition of Kobe Shimbun featured the donation of a delivery vehicle to certified NPO Food Bank Kansai by the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), of which a member of our team is part. It is a practical contribution to the logistics that underpin local food assistance every day.
Connecting food from where there is enough to where it is needed
Food Bank Kansai is a certified NPO that receives food which remains safe to eat but is no longer needed by companies or households, and connects it with people facing difficulty accessing food. About Food Bank Kansai
Food Bank Kansai does more than collect donated food. It works with food-related companies, organisations, individuals, food drives, welfare facilities, nonprofit organisations, local government, and social welfare councils to move food to people who need it. Its main service area includes southern Hyogo, the Hanshin region, and parts of Osaka City.
The organisation describes its work through three connected actions: collecting, delivering, and connecting. Food must be received and handled responsibly, then distributed through reliable local networks. This creates a practical cycle that makes better use of food while supporting a local food-safety net.
- Collect: give a new role to safe food that cannot enter the market or will not be used at home.
- Deliver: work with welfare organisations, pantries, public bodies, and other partners to get food to people who need it.
- Connect: bring businesses, communities, and support organisations together around food loss and food access.
Why a delivery vehicle matters
A food bank depends on the ability to receive, store, and reliably transport donated food. A delivery vehicle is therefore essential infrastructure: it supports collection and distribution, helping the organisation sustain the practical work that connects food and people. Vehicle upkeep, transportation, and storage all form part of the cost of keeping that work moving.
